"Nature Notes" an exhibition of landscapes by George Thomas Rope 1846 - 1929

George Thomas Rope was an Artist and Naturalist who observed and recorded nature through sketches, oil paintings and the written word.  His subjects included landscapes, animals, farming and all countryside creatures.

The works in this Exhibition, many of which are offered for sale, have been assembled over 40 years, including a number which were obtained direct from the Artist’s Studio where they had been stored for over 70 years.

George Thomas Rope lived a quiet life in Blaxhall and Leiston and this display is a fitting tribute on the 90th Anniversary of the death of the Artist.

Just as John Constable took inspiration from the area around Dedham and East Bergholt, which became known as ‘Constable Country’, Rope’s works with a similar depth of feeling recorded his part of Suffolk.

The Exhibition is open on Saturday 23rd March to Saturday 20th April 2019 on Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays from 11.00am - 4.00pm. or other times by prior arrangement.
